Frequently Asked Questions

Composite has real wood content and is designed to look like the real thing, with plenty of added benefits. You can choose from a number of product options, colours and finishes to achieve just the look and style you want.

Composite absorbs significantly less water than traditional timber. This limits fungi and mould growth that can contribute to a slippery surface and gives you a safe and secure platform to walk on.

Yes, durability is a big advantage of composite. It wears better than traditional materials, with no warping, splitting, rotting or woodworm to worry about. Plus, there’s no need for annual sanding and coating. It’s simply hassle-free decking that really lasts (for 20 years or more).

Generally, the only maintenance needed is a quick sweep or scrub every now and then, and a power wash with a recommended composite decking cleaning solution a couple of times a year (ensure the nozzle isn’t too near to the surface and test a small area first).

Regularly removing or brushing any debris off the deck will reduce the number of times heavier cleaning is required, as well as reducing the risk of such material rotting and potentially marking the decking area.

Yes. There’s a small raised ridge within the top cavity of the fence boards which needs to face the same direction for all boards, creating the front and back.

Hollow boards have a hollow core and a groove in the side profile, whereas solid boards are solid throughout. Hollow boards are recommended for residential and light commercial use, whereas solid boards are designed with commercial projects in mind and are recommended for any edging of steps. The hollow boards are cheaper, expand and contract more than solid but still provide excellent strength.

There’s no need to throw it away. Leftover composite decking can be used like wood so you could make a planter, create a garden path, a bench seat - anything you might do with wood, without the worry of mildew, mould or rotting.

In the long term, no. But please note, within the first 2-3 months of installation, there will be approximately 10%-15% fading due to natural weathering. After this, the colour pigments stabilise and are more resistant to fading than timber.

An advantage of composite is that it is highly scratch-resistant. However, like all outdoor products, some scratches are possible. These can be removed by using a wire brush or fine sandpaper in the direction of the decking board. We recommend trying a small test area first so you can see how much force to use. Felt pads can be fitted to the bottom of metal furniture to limit scratches.

There can sometimes be variations in colour from batch to batch, so to ensure complete consistency we would always recommend carefully calculating the quantity required before placing your order.

Yes. Composite is simple to install, both DIY and professionally. It’s designed to be cut, drilled and fixed like wood, but doesn’t splinter or split. Plus, unlike timber there’s no need to treat, stain or paint, so it takes a lot less time.

Yes, composite is great for this. Excellent anti-slip properties, no splintering and low water absorption rates mean it’s suitable for hot tubs and pools and will outlive any timber alternatives.

Solid decking boards are recommended for hot tubs that sit on top of the decking, due to the weight. You can use hollow around a sunken hot tub. Always consult a professional for decking installation in conjunction with hot tubs and pools.

Hollow boards are installed using a simple, hidden clip fixing method.

The solid boards are face-fixed using colour-coded screws through the face of the board.
